Ethan excluded for wearing fidget ring

A PLYMOUTH mum has criticised her son’s school after he was excluded for wearing a ‘fidget ring’ designed to help with his mental health.

Mum Abby Wiseman says her 16-year-old son Ethan was told by members of staff at Scott Medical and Healthcare College to remove the band despite being aware of his anxiety.

After Ethan refused to remove the ring, Abby said her son was ‘excluded’ from class and she was told to expect official communication from the headteacher, which she is still waiting on.

The college has not commented on the individual incident, but has said that it expected ‘all students to present themselves in-line with school policies’ and that support is given to parents and students to ensure the correct uniform is worn.

Explaining why Ethan wore the ring, Abby said her son suffered with anxiety and it helped to calm him.
