ONE of Plymouth Hoe's most important historic buildings is set to enjoy an incredible £20 million refurbishment and extension.
The Marine Biological Association (MBA) building sits beside the Royal Citadel. It was constructed specifically for the MBA in 1888, as their original and current home. However, over the years the building has undergone erratic development, leaving the campus dense and disjointed, spread over many levels.
The MBA's academic and scientific research covers a range of disciplines, including marine cell biology, ecology, animal behaviour and ecosystem change. It is also the home of the Continuous Plankton Recorder, one of the longest-running marine biological monitoring programmes in the world.
