WITH the very real prospect that the new variant and spread of Covid will wreak havoc with the non-League fixture calendar, Plymouth Parkway manager Lee Hobbs is keeping everything crossed that tomorrow’s Southern League Division One South trip to Bideford goes ahead

Hobbs says that only four of his squad have not tested positive over the last six weeks. But it is not just the pandemic causing the Parkway boss a headache right now.

The wet weather over the festive period meant a lucrative Devon derby at home to Barnstaple Town – where the club were expecting a crowd of around 1,000 – was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, a decision that did not go down well within the confines of Bolitho Park.

While many clubs were financially boosted by significant increases in attendance over the festive period, Parkway’s only contribution to it all was their ravaged squad fulfilled a fixture at Willand on December 27 despite their Covid issues - and a bumper 400-strong crowd witnessed Parkway winning a seven-goal thriller in the final stages of the game.
