LANDOWNERS are being warned to protect themselves against fly-tipping after more than 7,000 incidents were reported in Plymouth last year – despite a drop of more than 30% in a year.
Figures released by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) show that there were 55,162 flytipping incidents recorded across the South West in 2020/21 – with 7,016 of those coming in Plymouth.
Regionally, that was a rise of almost 5,000 on the 50,506 recorded during the previous 12 months.
The South Hams saw one of the biggest proportional increases, from 370 to 542, while in West Devon incidents were up from 273 to 337. In Plymouth, however, there was a significant drop from the 10,933 recorded in 2019/20.
