A £5 MILLION scheme to improve access to Derriford Hospital is set to begin this month.
The Morlaix Drive Access Improvement Scheme was originally scheduled for 2020, but was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. The improvement works are finally set to start on Monday, January 24, and will finish by the end of the year.
The main purpose of the scheme is to provide better bus access to Derriford Hospital and improve reliability for bus services in the north of the city, complementing the nearby Derriford Hospital Interchange as well as the Marjon Link Road, as at present Morlaix Drive is, in parts, too narrow for vehicles to travel along in both directions.
Cllr Jonathan Drean, Plymouth City Council Cabinet member for transport, said: “I’m really pleased to see work begin on this long-overdue scheme that will do so much to make sustainable transport a better option in the north of the city.
