THE Cornwall councillor responsible for transport has claimed that he was not allowed to attend a key meeting about the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry.
Philip Desmonde made the startling statement during a meeting of the joint committee responsible for the key transport links between Cornwall and Plymouth.
Cllr Desmonde, Cabinet member for transport at Cornwall Council, made his claim after being unhappy about consultants who have been appointed to analyse the operations of the bridge and the ferry in order to shape the future of the two river crossings.
The Conservative councillor has told the committee that he did not consider the consultants – Aecom – to be the best firm for the job, as he said they are specialists in engineering when he believed that the focus should be on the finances and planning for the ferry and bridge.
