This is for the first time that such an event is being held, especially now that the Matheran Light Railway was nominated for UNESCOGreece Melina Mercouri International Prize early this August.
According to the CR officials, they are holding this festival as a symbol of being an integral part of Matheran and the locals there. The railway station has been refurbished and painted. The authorities have also invited the local community residing around the hill station to showcase their culture and share experiences.
