Work Till You Die..?

The coronavirus is indiscriminate – but it is vulnerable groups who are likely to experience the worst effects.

As many bosses are locked away in comfortable, homely surroundings, factory, warehouse, construction and public sector workers and cleaners are being siphoned into the most infectious zones.

I felt traumatised during an 11-hour telephone surgery, hearing story after story of how unscrupulous employers were directing their workers into close contact with others with no hygiene or personal protection equipment.

Each worker was scared. Many had underlying health conditions. Some had no choice but to “get on with it” if they wanted to keep their job, like one chronic asthmatic worker I spoke to.
