Peter Kay back to a stand-up ovation..
PETER Kay got a standing ovation as he returned to the stage for the first time in four years yesterday... on a mission to save student Laura Nuttall.

The delighted Phoenix Nights star told his fans returning to stand-up was like “getting in a hot bath” and joked: “I’ve never in my life had a standing ovation when I came on – I’m going to go away for four more years.”

The Bolton funnyman, 48, hopes to raise £250,000 with his Q&A gigs to treat Laura’s rare and aggressive brain cancer, glioblastoma multiforme.

Tickets for the 3,500-capacity venue sold out within 30 minutes and there were queued around the block in the rain to see him.

Kay arrived at Manchester’s 02 Apollo in a T-shirt and shorts, baseball cap and face mask.

The lucky few who secured tickets were invited to send in questions, with Kay picking them out of a Roses chocolates box to answer on stage.

Laura, 21, who has just completed her second year at Manchester University where she is studying philosophy, politics and economics, was in the audience with her family.
