LOCKDOWN could cost the economy as much as £8billion a fortnight in the key two-week run-up to Christmas – forcing one in four pubs out of business.

Business leaders also warn hundreds of thousands of jobs are at risk.

However Boris Johnson said the furlough scheme, due to end yesterday, would extend into December.

His Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, said: “We have decided to extend the furlough scheme for a further month covering 80% of employees’ wages.”

The British Beer and Pub Association wants free cash for pubs and compensation for brewers.
