Diego’s death is a lesson in perspective
Never Felt Cheated?

Maradona was going to sign for Leeds, you know?

It was 1987, the year after he won the World Cup when we were in the Second Division. I remember it being on the back of the Evening Post at the time. £8million, we were going to bid.

Would have been a good move for Diego, he could have slotted in nicely next to Ian Baird.

Inexplicably, he stayed with Napoli and we had to wait a couple more years for a genuine world-class striker to arrive (Lee Chapman, before you ask).

The death of the great man – Diego, not Chapman (alive) – was another grim component of a really grim week.

Tiers were announced and we’re all getting locked up again – unless you are lucky enough to live in Cornwall or the Isle of Wight. What is the point in letting everyone on the Isle of Wight roam free? I have been to the Isle of Wight. There is nowhere to go.
