KAIRANA: Union Home minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah kicked off his poll campaign in the western Uttar Pradesh on Saturday from the Kairana Assembly constituency, which had been in the news for the Hindu exodus incident in 2016 or riots for a long time. Along with the door-to-door campaign at the Teachers’ Colony, he met the victim families as well. He visited an almost seven-decades-old Sadhu sweet shop at the narrow lane of the Chowk Bazar area, whose owner Rakesh Garg was shifted to Ambala, Haryana in 2014 following receipt of a letter from a local gang for extortion of Rs 20 lakh.
However, he later returned to UP to continue his family business. The former BJP president visited Garg’s residence and spoke to his family members. While speaking to the media, Shah said he spoke with as many as 11 members of one Mittal family who informed him that they no longer live in fear. According to the Union Home minister, these families were forced to leave the state due to erstwhile law and order scenarios.
