Xmas tree felled hours after switch-on

ONE of the biggest nights in a village’s year took a turn for the disastrous worst - just hours after hundreds attended its Christmas lights switch-on.

A towering 30ft festive tree came crashing down in the picturesque Audlem, in Cheshire, which is known for going all-out with its festive decorations.

Acclaimed as one of the nation’s most Christmassy villages, residents pay a voluntary annual fee for a dazzling array of festive lights.
