Ryan Cashin, 19, hunted down and stabbed 16-year-old Rhamero West in Old Trafford, a court heard.
Cashin had taken the weapon from a 17-year-old boy who chased Rhamero, a nephew of ex-City star Shaun Wright-Phillips, as he ran for his life, Manchester Crown Со it was told.
Rhamero, who started college studying catering on the day he was killed, desperately banged on front doors as he tried to get away.
Cashin and the 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at court charged with his murder. Two others, Giovanni Lawrence, 20, and Xavaiour Wynter, 18, were also charged with murder.
