The city was also marked down in a study by door safety security company Get Licensed because of a relatively low safety index of 43 out of 100.
With an average pint costing £3.78, and 37.5 bars and clubs per 100,000 people, its overall night out score was 4.75 out of 10.
Liverpool fared little better, coming in at 18th, with an average pint cost of £3.42 and a score of 5.57, but the surpise package was Warrington, which finished third in the national table.
The study took into account three factors: the number of licensed premises per head of population, a safety index, and the average cost of a pint all of which added up to the quality of nightlife.
