Hero garda says: I'm just doing my job

A GARDA who pulled a man from icy waters and saved him from drowning said he was just doing his job after being hailed a hero.

Garda Patrick Mulcahy, 37, stripped off and jumped into the River Barrow to rescue a man spotted clinging to the side of a small boat.

He and Garda David Bergin both stationed in Athy, Co Kildare - were quick to respond to reports of a man who fell into the water last weekend.

Garda Mulcahy said he didn't think twice about entering the water in sub zero conditions and swimming out 15 feet to reach the man.
