3,000 learners to face stricter new regulations

NEARLY 3,000 learner and novice drivers with seven penalty points or more face disqualification if they receive any more after a change in the law.

The Department of Transport said new legal advice it received means the threshold applies to all learners and novices.

Up until now, it had been thought they were subject to the same 12 point limit as fully-experienced motorists, but this is no longer the case.

The department said no learner or novice with seven points or more will face immediate sanctions.
