TRIBUTES were paid yesterday to rising equestrian star Tiggy Hancock who died after a fall from her horse.

The talented 15-year-old was fatally injured on Wednesday afternoon during a training exercise for the Irish Eventing team at the Greenogue Equestrian centre, Rathcoole, Dublin.

The alarm was raised and emergency services rushed to the scene and treated Tiggy who was brought to Childrens’ Health Ireland in Crumlin, Dublin, but she died.

Edmund Kearney, a friend of the family from Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, said Tiggy was on track to have a highly successful career.

The funeral director added: “She was on her way to the top. She was a girl who you would have been writing about for years to come if this hadn’t happened to her.”

Edmund said Tiggy had been riding from a very young age and she adored horses and equestrian sport.

He added: “I’d say she was riding when she could walk. She represented Ireland several times and she had a very bright future.”
