Prince Charles was last night self-isolating for two weeks due to coronavirus after developing “mild” symptoms on Monday.
Doctors believe the 71-year-old became infected on March 13 – 24 hours after he last met the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
He tested positive for Covid-19 and because of his age is considered at high risk of complications.
It came as 504,303 volunteers answered the British Government’s call to help the NHS – along with thousands of former health workers.
The revelations come as the UK death toll stood at 465 yesterday – after further patients in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland died.
But there was fury that Charles was checked for the virus while tens of thousands of frontline medics have been refused tests. Wife Camilla was also tested but was in the clear. The SNP’s Joan McAlpine said: “I wish Charles a speedy recovery. But given that his symptoms are said to be mild, like many I wonder how he was tested when many NHS and social care workers can’t get tested.”
It was also revealed Charles and Camilla, 72, travelled from Highgrove in Gloucestershire to their Scottish retreat, Birkhall, despite showing signs of the illness.
