NEPHEW IN COURT OVER DEAD MAN'S PENSION

THE nephew of a pensioner who was discovered to be dead at a post office appeared in court yesterday and was remanded in custody.

Declan Haughney, 40, is accused of trying to withdraw his uncle's pension at Hosey's Post Office in Carlow town on two occasions last Friday.

It is alleged he entered the post office at 11.04am, where he dishonestly induced by deception a member of staff.

He is accused of producing a social welfare card in the name of his 66-year-old uncle Peadar Doyle in an attempt to collect a pension payment of €240.
