Stephen Scullion knew the moment had come to kick the drink after waking up in a pool of his own vomit.

Marathon runner Scullion will represent Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics in July. He recently tweeted that he was 133 days sober.

The 32-year-old Belfast man (right) retired after a drinking session that followed him winning a 10k event last July, but quickly went back on that decision

Then an incident after returning home for Christmas forced him to quit drinking.

“I woke up in a pile of my own sick, had drunk way too heavily and thrown up all over the bed,” Scullion recalled.

He returned to England the following day, missing a family Christmas. “I pretty much didn’t trust myself to stay and not drink again,” he said.
