And she reiterated warnings from the Taoiseach that restrictions may not end by January 31.
It comes as retail across the country shut their doors yesterday as the country was plunged into a third Level 5 lockdown.
Ms McEntee, below, said: “We have all these restrictions in place and we have ways of enforcing them.
“But this is really about asking people to stay at home for the month of January.
“We can’t say for definite that this is going to end in January – but if we can stick to [it] rigidly over the next month, then we will hopefully see that sharp decline.”
The Government and the HSE has faced criticism in recent days over the pace of which it is rolling out the Pfizer/ BioNTech vaccines.
