Micheal: UN Mostly Backs Climate And War Proposal

Micheal Martin has said UN Security Council members broadly backed Ireland in bringing the first Resolution linking climate change to international conflicts.

However, heavyweights China and Russia are not in favour of the proposal and as one of five permanent members of the 15 country Security Council, they have a crucial veto.

The Taoiseach said the resolution is not “doomed” just because the Chinese and Russians are against it.

He said that the “real work” through diplomatic channels will now get under way behind the scenes to win over the sceptics.
