Record rainfall as last month hit by miserable weather

MISERABLE May was the wettest and coldest on record at some Irish weather stations.

Met Eireann’s weather statement for last month revealed above average rainfall with southern and eastern counties were the soggiest last month.

Roche’s Point in Cork set a new record as its downpours were 241% above average.

A Met Eireann spokesman said: “May was a cool and wet month everywhere with persistent and slow moving troughs of low pressure.
