MURDER PROBE AS MAN KILLED WITH AXE IN OWN HOME

A MURDER probe was launched yesterday after an elderly man was killed with an axe in his own home.

The victim, a Vietnamese national, was found lying in a pool of blood in his Robinson’s Court flat off Cork Street in Dublin.

Gardai believe he was struck in the head and body with an axe – which was recovered at the gruesome scene yesterday afternoon.

An exact motive for the horrific crime has not yet been established and sources said no obvious signs of a break-in were observed.

Last night detectives from Kevin Street Garda station launched a full murder investigation.

Officers from the Garda Technical Bureau were seen combing the scene and pitching a tent in front of the man’s apartment yesterday.
