A MAN has been remanded in custody after being charged yesterday with the murders of two men.
Yousef Palani, 22, was remanded after appearing at Sligo District Court charged with murdering Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee.
Mr Moffitt, 42, and 58-year-old Mr Snee were found dead in their homes in the town earlier this week.
The defence solicitor for the accused requested he be placed on suicide watch and see a psychiatrist immediately after being charged with the murders.
Palani was also further charged with a section four assault before Judge Sandra Murphy.
Anthony Burke, the alleged victim of the assault, was present in the court building.
Palani was escorted from the local Garda station less than 100 yards away in a marked Garda van with tinted windows which drove into the side entrance of the building after 4.30pm. Outside, a large crowd had gathered as gardai guarded the gateway.
Inside court, relatives of Mr Moffitt and Mr Snee were present.
