KEVIN DOHERTY wants to put the hard lessons learned on his first ride on the managerial merry-go-round to good use at Drogheda.
The Dubliner landed in the Shels hot-seat seven years ago - aged 34 - and remained in charge for 18 months.
He then joined Longford Town as an assistant manager to Alan Mathews before taking the same role at Drogs.
When Tim Clancy departed suddenly as Boynesiders boss last week for FAI Cup winners St Pat's, Doherty could have joined him at Richmond Park.
"I'm sure there was a possibility but I wanted to be manager of this club," said Doherty.
“Having been offered the opportunity to manage Shels, I would never have turned it down. But I didn't realise the situation that the club was in then, there was a lot of debt.
