IAN Bailey's ex-girlfriend Jules Thomas has broken her silence and has rubbished claims she dumped him by letter - but said her daughter wrote to him telling him to leave the house.

Writing in the Big Issue, the 64-year-old journalist claimed Jules outlined her feelings in a letter before leaving it on the kitchen table addressed to him in her West Cork home, The Prairie, last March.

But Jules said she did not dump him like that, insisting their relationship had long been over and instead allowed her daughter to write to him to tell him to leave her rural home she had shared with him even after their break-up.

The landscape artist added: “A letter was written but not by me.

“I had been asking him very nicely to find somewhere else to live for quite a long time.

"It was just a point that my daughters felt it was gone on too long and it passed its sell-by date and all the rest of it.
