Jobs Plea As O'brien Sells For €100m

THE Irish broadcasting watchdog has been urged to ensure radio jobs are protected after the sale of Denis O’Brien’s Communicorp.

The media giant has been bought by German firm Bauer Media in a deal believed to be worth more than €100million.

Newstalk, Today FM, Spin 1038, Spin Southwest and 98FM radio stations are all part of the group formerly owned by O’Brien.

The deal sees Bauer Media enter the Irish market for the first time and marks the end of the businessman’s long and significant involvement in media ownership here.

In 2019 he sold his 29% stake in Independent News and Media to Mediahuis.
