Fleetwood, who turns 31 today, lost his US Tour card after a barren year which saw him slide from world No.19 to No.41.

He was also part of the European team (below) thrashed by the USA in the Ryder Cup and failed to register a win at Whistling Straits.

“Last year was tough. I didn’t play well,” admitted Fleetwood, who tees off at the Abu Dhabi Championship tomorrow – the opening DP World Tour event of the calendar year.

“I was very rarely at a tournament where I felt very confident with my game or where all parts of my game were at. I lacked rhythm throughout the year.
