Fishing boat skipper is in 'good spirits' before court

AN Irish skipper accused of illegally trawling for scallops is said to be "in good spirits” ahead of a court appearance today.

Jondy Ward was arrested with his seven crew on the vessel Cornelis Gert Jan off the Normandy coast last week by the French Maritime Gendarmerie.

He is accused of fishing without a licence in French territorial waters and remains in custody.
