First killer hornet found in Ireland

A GIANT killer wasp responsible for the deaths of dozens of people in the past three years alone has invaded Ireland.

The fearsome Asian Hornet was discovered in a North Dublin home, the National Parks and Wildlife service confirmed yesterday.

The chaos-causing winged predator also known as a “murder hornet” preys on pollinators such as honey bees and presents a serious threat to biodiversity.

And while not normally a threat to humans, the quantity of venom they can inject through multiple stings can make them dangerous to young children as well as people with existing health conditions. They have caused several deaths including up to 50 in Japan and two in the US.
