A FARMER has been given a three-month suspended prison sentence for the possession of two dead rare birds of prey which were found strung up on his land.

Desmond Crawford, of Roskelton in Mountrath, Co Laois, pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of two deceased buzzards at Portlaoise District Court.

He admitted to breaching two regulations under Section 45 of the Wildlife Acts on April 19 at Clonadacasey in his local area.
