- Armed officers pounce hours after second victim found
- Gardai reveal both men were subjected to shocking violence
A SUSPECT was being quizzed last night over a bloody hate-filled killing spree that has left two men dead.
It is feared both Aidan Moffitt, 42, and 58-year-old Michael Snee were targeted via a dating app and then savagely mutilated in a frenzied knife attack in their homes within 48 hours of each other.
The double murder has shocked the people of Sligo town as gardai issued a public appeal for anyone with any information to come forward.
The serial killer suspects, 22, was born abroad but has lived here most of his life.
He was arrested in a housing estate in the town at 1.30 am yesterday, a couple of hours after Mr Snee’s body was found at his own home in City View, off Connaughton Road.
Armed gardai got neighbours to move out before swooping on the house.
They carried out an intensive search at the back of the property yesterday.
MOTIVE
Gardai are desperately trying to establish a motive for the murders, but did say that the two deaths had all the hallmarks of a killer driven by hate.
However senior officers are still keeping an “open mind” on the two cases and are investigating if there was any connection between the attacks and a serious assault on a local barman, in his forties, in the town last Saturday.
It is believed this victim had his eye gouged but managed to fight off his attacker.
He has been released from hospital and is back living at home.
Mr Moffitt’s body was found at his home in Cartron Heights on Monday evening after family and friends couldn’t contact him.
