‘Aoife wanted to live a full life on behalf of the friends she lost in Berkeley'

BERKELEY balcony collapse victim Aoife Beary was yesterday hailed for living a life “full of meaning and purpose” as she was laid to rest.

The Dubliner was one of 13 people who were on a fourth-floor balcony when it collapsed during a party for her 21st birthday in 2015.

Six of Aoife’s friends – Lorcan Miller, Eimear Walsh, Niccolai Schuster, Eoghan Culligan, and cousins Olivia Burke and Ashley Donohoe – died in the 40ft fall.

The 27-year-old suffered a stroke and died at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital on New Year’s Eve.

Hundreds gathered at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in Foxrock to support her parents Angela and Mike, brother Tim and sister Anna and hear Aoife described as “a person who embraced life and its possibilities”. Aoife’s uncle James O’Doherty told mourners of her determination to challenge lawmakers for everything to be made public after the tragedy.
