THE HSE and a hospital have apologised to the family of a child with cerebral palsy who had sued over the circumstances of her birth.

The statement by Sligo University Hospital was read to the court as five-year-old Megan McGoldrick secured an interim settlement of €2.5million for the next three years.

Mr. Justice Kevin Cross was told the girl, from Sligo, who has dyskinetic cerebral palsy and is unable to communicate verbally, is a happy child.

The hospital manager said both the HSE and the facility wish to sincerely apologize to the McGoldrick's “for the negligent care and management” during Mrs. Andrea McGoldrick’s labor and delivery on November 28, 2015.
