A COVID-19 vaccination dry run will take place in Chennai, Nilgiris and Tirunelveli on Saturday as part of a national drive, health officials said on Friday.
The Union government had announced the dry run across the country at selected places, as the country launches its vaccination programme in the New Year against the coronavirus that has crippled the world in the year that just passed. In Tamil Nadu, of the three districts, Chennai will have three locations and the other two one each, the officials said.
All state capitals will do the dry run in at least three session sites.
Even as the vaccination is being launched, Tamil Nadu on Friday extended COVID-19-prompted restrictions by another month, Jan.31.
Among specific curbs is the ban on congregation of public in the beaches across Tamil Nadu on Jan.16 for Kaanum Pongal festival, which the state used to celebrate at a massive scale.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy said relaxations will not apply in COVID-19 containment zones. Among easing allowed are places of worship, which can now function with relaxed timings by following the standard operating procedures already provided to religious institutions.
