A day after Cyclone Nivar let Tamil Nadu without inflicting a high-scale calamity, weather experts said a new depression will form in the southeastern Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours.
“The depressurised area becomes a depressurised zone within the next 24 hours after formation,” Met office sources said.
“The new depression will move towards Tamil Nadu on Nov.30. There is chance of rain in Tamil Nadu from Dec.1 to 3 due to the new depression.” A weakened Nivar has touched southern Andhra Pradesh.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rains for the next 24 hours in northern Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karaikal due to the prevailing low pressure in coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu.
State government leaders, facing Assembly election in April/May, meanwhile were airing claims of excellent preparations ahead of the cyclone, stressing that it helped to prevent large-scale losses.
