Manila hospitals buckle as virus cases rise

MANILA: The bed capacity of Metro Manila hospitals devoted to COVID-19 patients has been pushed to the limit by the surge in the past two weeks by confirmed coronavirus infections, health officials warned on Monday.

Officials admitted that some of their intensive care units (ICUs) reserved for confirmed serious COVID-19 patients have been adversely affected exactly a year after the national government placed the entire main island of Luzon under the strict enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) or lockdown.
