THE mother of a four-year-old Australian girl who went missing for 18 days today declared “our family is whole again” after a miraculous rescue by police officers.
Cleo Smith was found alone in a house in the Western Australian town of Carnarvon, 47 miles away from where she went missing but just two miles from her home, following a tip-off and forensic breakthroughs.
She had been abducted from the remote Blowholes campsite on October 16, prompting a huge hunt for the girl described as “Australia’s Madeleine McCann”.
A 36-year-old man, who was not in the home when it was raided, was arrested at a nearby property and is being questioned in connection with the incident.
Cleo’s mother Ellie was reunited with her daughter shortly after police stormed the house in the early hours.
