TWO-TONE legends The Specials purposely avoided ska romps on their new album for fear of becoming a parody of themselves.
Two years after comeback LP Encore, the Coventry crew have followed it up with a classy collection of protest songs featuring blues, folk and rock & roll covers, but practically none of their trademark ska.
Bassist Horace Panter explained: “We got back together for the first time in 2008 for the 30th anniversary of our band to go on tour and pay off my mortgage, but there was never a long-term strategy.
“I planned to go back to being a school teacher which is what I was at the time.
