RAFA NADAL could not hold back his tears of relief and joy as the thunder rumbled and the rain lashed down on the roof of the Rod Laver Arena.
The Spaniard was back in his first Australian Open final since 2019 after weathering his own recent personal storms.
And when TV interviewer Jim Courier asked the 20-time Grand Slam winner if he preferred playing under the roof or not, Nadal just laughed.
“You know what?” he said. “A month and a half ago I didn’t even know if I was going to be able to play tennis, so it didn’t matter if it was outdoors or indoors today, I just wanted to enjoy it.”
