RACHAEL Blackmore was hailed the Queen of Cheltenham last night after becoming the first woman to be crowned the festival’s Champion Jockey.
The 31-year-old had six wins in four days at the races – including the prestigious Champion Hurdle – making her the first female in the event’s 161-year history to be its most successful rider.
She said: “Oh man, it’s unbelievable. I can’t even comprehend being leading jockey at Cheltenham.
“It’s crazy stuff. I was hoping I’d get one winner. Then when that happens it’s some weight off your shoulders, so everything is a bonus after that.’’ She almost landed a seventh victory yesterday – finishing second on A Plus Tard in the showpiece Gold Cup.
