THE First Minister could be days away from imposing harsh new travel restrictions in a bid to keep out the new Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Travellers from 10 African countries must already enter hotel quarantine for 10 days to curb the spread of the strain, which may be able to evade current vaccinations.

All travellers from overseas have to take PCR tests and self-isolate for two days. But Nicola Sturgeon warned: “We may have to go further.

It comes as contacts of a third person in the UK who tested positive for Omicron were being traced.
