A study by respected charity the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) found that people already trapped in poverty when Covid hit were most affected by lockdowns and redundancies.
The JRF report found workers on the lowest incomes experienced the largest cut in hours and were more likely to have their pay cut.
It revealed that 81 per cent of those working in hospitality and leisure lost wages compared with 16 per cent in financial services.
