Joe Biden has warned Vladimir Putin he faces personal sanctions if Russia invades Ukraine.

The US President's threat came as his country, the UK and other allies continued talks to send thousands of forces to Nato countries, including Romania.

A Russian assault on Ukraine would have enormous consequences” for the world, Mr Biden said.

He added: “If he were to move in with all those forces, it would be the largest invasion since World War II. It would change the world”.

Asked if he may impose sanctions on Putin personally in the event of an invasion, the President replied: “Yes”.
