ENERGY bills are set to hit a staggering £3000 a year and plunge 40 per cent of people into fuel poverty, the boss of E.On has warned.
Michael Lewis wants the Tory Government to step in before another price rise in October.
He said: "The most important thing is that the Government intervenes. It's important that, when they are taxing to address this, they tax those with the broadest shoulders.

More families face bills crisis. Windfall tax calls increase
CALLS for a windfall tax on oil and gas giants grew as energy suppliers urged ministers to make "those with the broadest shoulders" help ease the cost of living crisis.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has so far resisted pleas for a one-off levy on the huge profits of oil and gas companies benefiting from the rise in prices as households already reeling from soaring fuel bills face more rises in autumn.
But E.On UK chief Michael Lewis said urgent action is needed as one in eight customers already struggle to pay bills, even during the warmer weather.
