Disabled dad kills himself after benefits are suspended

A DISABLED dad who took his life after his benefits were halted left a note urging his family to let the authorities know why he’d done it.

Former welder Maxwell Quinton, 54, urged his wife and son to “tell the benefit system what they are doing to people like me”.

A DAD took his own life hours after his benefits were suspended, leaving a heartbreaking letter for his wife and son.

Maxwell Quinton suffered from several debilitating conditions and had been receiving Government support over the last 20 years due to his poor health.

But he ended his life hours after receiving a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) who said his benefits were being suspended.

He left a note for his wife Andrina and son Harry, begging them to “tell the benefits system what they are doing to people like me”.

The 54-year-old, who suffered from sciatica, COPD, depression and a blood disorder called haemochromatosis, committed suicide in Glenrothes on April 13.

Andrina has now fulfilled his final wish by revealing his suicide letter in a bid to expose the Tories’ benefit cuts.

Maxwell wrote: “Nina, thanks for marrying me and giving me a loving son.

“Keep Harry on the straight and narrow. Let Harry know he is the best thing that ever happened to me. Love you and Harry. Keep things right. Love you always. Maxi and Dad.

“PS Make a point in telling the benefit system what they are doing to people like me. Go to the papers to stop any people like me doing the same thing.”

The former welder had become increasingly forgetful in recent months.
