A NASA helicopter hovers over the surface of Mars as it becomes the first craft to complete a powered flight on another planet.
The 4lb Ingenuity rotorcraft flew up to 10ft into the air for just under 40 seconds before landing.
However, the results were not known for three hours as it took the data so long to travel the 173 million miles from the Red Planet back to mission control.
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, said: “Perseverance got us to Mars. With Ingenuity, we soar higher.
