GARETH BALE’S World Cup heroics left Rubin Colwill openmouthed in amazement – and last night the roles were reversed.
The Cardiff teenager admitted after last Thursday’s play-off semi-final triumph over Austria he was staggered at the display of the Real Madrid superstar.
But after the Bluebirds’ playmaker bagged his first goal for the Dragons he was greeted by a big smile and huge round of applause from the country’s Grand Master who was sat on the substitutes’ bench.
Colwill, 19, was part of an inexperienced line-up that included just one survivor from the unforgettable triumph against the Austrians.
But he did not take long to make his mark in only his fourth appearance – and first on home soil - for Rob Page’s men.
Colwill timed his 34th-minute run to perfection, arriving at just the right time to sidefoot home after Brennan Johnson’s pace caught out the Czechs.
